The Executive Safety Committee is the opportunity for the Accountable Executive / CEO and the organisations Accountable Managers to manage and govern the implementation of SMS within the organisation.
The Executive Safety Committee has the following Terms of Reference:

Review Safety Risk Levels for each identified service hazard. | |
Monitor actions into managing future service hazards. | |
Endorse safety performance indicators and targets for services. | |
Review service plans are in place to manage emergency situations and business continuity. | |
Objective #2: Analyse Service Safety Performance | Review trends in organisations safety performance in context of any relevant targets. |
Review status of high significance events and investigations and recommended actions. | |
Compare safety performance with external service providers. | |
Objective #3: Identify Service Safety Improvements | Review status and advise on strategic and service level safety improvement actions. |
Provide resources and sponsorship of strategic safety improvement actions. | |
Endorse communication of safety improvement activities to internal and external stakeholders. | |
Objective #4: Control Changes to Services | Review status of major change programmes. |
Review status of safety risk assessments for changes. | |
Review status of safety cases for changes | |
Objective #5: Supporting Organisation and Culture | Review status of safety accountability implementation. |
Review status of employee and contractor competency within the organisation. | |
Endorse safety culture climate survey. | |
Review performance and effectiveness of SMS implementation within the organisation | |
Objective #6: SMS Documentation and Record-keeping | Review status of SMS documentation. |
Review status of compliance with international standards, national regulatory requirements and good practice OR the impact on compliance as a result of any planned changes. |
The Accountable Executive is the Chair of the committee.
The Safety Manager is the Secretary of the committee.
All Accountable Managers defined in the Safety Chain will attend the meeting. Additional Managers and Supervisors will attend based on the structure of the organisation and the topics of the specific agenda.
The meeting will be held Quarterly.
